Chapter 1: Personalized Nutrition
This chapter is designed to establish a foundation as to why USANA creates high-quality supplements. You’ll see the value of taking control of your physical health, and we’ll provide you with the resources to do it.
In this chapter we will cover the following:
-What is Personalized Nutrition?
-USANA InCelligence Technology®
-What are Optimizers?
Since 1992, USANA has always been interested in providing people the supplements people need to live their happiest and healthiest lives. Dr. Myron Wentz, the founder of USANA discovered the value of antioxidants to counter the negative effects of free radicals in the human body. This concept has led to the creation of one of the largest health organizations in the world.
USANA vitamins are truly much more, because USANA® supplements are science based and rigorously tested, they are also set apart because of the way the products are designed to work with each individual’s’ personal needs. Our bodies are significantly different from one another. Our age, gender, activity level, and experiences in life cause each of us to develop different health and dietary needs.
The USANA® CellSentials™ daily supplements are the base of proper supplementation. The CellSentials™ consist of our Vita-Antioxidant™ and Core Minerals™ supplements, which are strengthened with our USANA InCelligence Technology®. These products are essential in building a foundation of good health as they are feeding the cells what they need. If your cells are getting what they need, they produce the antioxidants and meet their functions better. These CellSentials™ are then coupled with Optimizers to customize your supplementation routine.
USANA creates high-quality nutritional products built on one simple idea: if you feed the cells in your body exactly what they need, your health will benefit.
Through high-quality supplements and a unique business structure, USANA is driven to help people get what they want out of life, beginning with health. USANA is driven to produce high-quality dietary supplements and supply them to individuals in 20 countries around the world.
With ample research, testing, and certifications, USANA goes above and beyond most supplement companies, and much more than the simplicity of USANA vitmains making them an ideal partner on your path to greater health.
USANA InCelligence Technology®
USANA is changing the future of nutritional science with the launch of its U.S. patent-pending USANA InCelligence Technology®. This innovative cell-signaling technology is found in various USANA products, including the CellSentials™.
CellSentials consists of antioxidant supplements that provide unique triple-action, cellular support. In addition, USANA InCelligence Technology strengthens many products within the Optimizer line (which you’ll learn more about in just a minute). The CellSentials provide the foundation of USANA’s nutritional system, and Optimizers enhance and personalize this system. Learn more about this technology and the CellSentials™ in the video below.*
Optimizers allow you to cater to your personal nutrition needs and customize a nutritional system to meet those needs. The Optimizers range from a Vitamin D supplement to a high-quality fish-oil supplement called BiOmega™.
Similar to building a custom home or having a personal trainer, the ability to have personalized nutrition goes above and beyond what generic vitamins can do for you. If you want to help your body perform at a higher level, USANA® products can help you do just that.
Chapter 4 will help you gain a better understanding of USANA’s Optimizers. Think of them as USANA vitamins that work in tandem with each other. It will help you determine which supplements may be the most beneficial to you.
Chapter 2: Know Your Body
In this chapter, you’ll gain an understanding of the value of the health information you already have and use it to determine your body’s unique needs.
Covered in this chapter:
-What Do You Already Know?
-True Health Assessment
-Preventive Physical Exam
What Do You Already Know?
You know your body better than just about anybody else. So use that information to your advantage. To determine your dietary and supplemental needs, look at several different factors in your life and your body.
A few questions to ask:
-How active are you?
-What vitamins or supplements do you already take?
-How much time do you spend outside?
-Do you have concerns with your nutritional health?
-Do you feel any soreness in your body after exercise/outdoor activity?
-Do you have sufficient energy to get through your daily tasks?
-What are you eating/drinking?
-What vitamins or minerals do you think you may be missing?
-What foods do you not like?
How do these questions help? Here’s an example. Many individuals today fall short of obtaining even the minimal daily requirement of vitamin D. If you’re spending most of your day in the office or in your home, you may be missing out on the vitamin D your body needs because the sun is an excellent source of it. A similar point could be made for those who don’t like to eat fish, a good source of omega-3s; our bodies need omega-3 fatty acids to help maintain healthy blood pressure and support other vital functions. Additionally, if you spend a large amount of time engaging in physical activity, you may want to put some effort toward protecting your joints to ensure you can remain active for the long run.
Listen to what your body is already telling you and start looking for solutions that will improve your well-being. For example, the occasional headache can often be an indicator of dehydration, or dry eyes can be caused by prolonged use of electronic screens due to the blue light they emit.
Ask these questions to prepare yourself to choose the right vitamin and mineral supplements to help your body. Then, take the time to learn about what types of features create a high-quality supplement so you can best meet the needs you have.
The history of your own life, as well as the health history of your parents and grandparents, can also be valuable. For example, your family may be at higher risk for high blood pressure or heart attacks. Knowing this can help you know which foods to avoid, while also telling you, as another example, how important an omega-3 supplement can be for you as opposed to someone else.
A deeper look into your health history can give you a good place to start in the hunt for the supplements that will do you the most good.
True Health Assessment
USANA has developed an online survey, or exam, called the True Health Assessment that is designed to help you evaluate your health, goals, and current health. Similar to the basic questions we’ve mentioned above that you can ask yourself, the assessment will go into additional detail about your diet, your health history, what you feel in your body after exercise, etc. It will then guide you to the supplements that might aid your efforts the most to achieve your health goals.
The True Health Assessment will provide you with a report on the top health risks you may want to be aware of, a lifestyle plan to help you make significant strides toward a healthier you, and a personalized nutrition program aiding you in the decisions of what your diet and dietary supplementation should look like.
Preventative Physical Exam
Preventative exams are most often covered by health insurance, meaning most of us can walk into a doctor’s office, get a physical, and walk out for little to no cost.
The tests can vary depending on your gender and age. They will often check the overall health of your eyes, ears, and mouth as well as your reflexes, stomach, and intestines. Some insurances cover additional blood work for an even more detailed reading of your current health. With blood work, you can be tested for diabetes and heart disease, and it provides you with a complete blood count, a metabolic panel, etc. Physical exams can help you find out about issues prior to them becoming bigger problems. But more importantly, even without any major pressing issues, the information provided can help you more appropriately cater to your body and develop healthy lifestyle habits that target your body’s health and wellness specifically.
Chapter 3: Why Supplements?
It’s true that supplements have their critics. And while lifting weights show physical changes, feeding your body the nutrients it needs does not always result in quick, visible results.
But the importance of supplements is no less valuable. In fact, to have your heart, brain, lungs, bones, and other vital bodily functions work properly should be a high priority in our daily lives. There are studies upon studies that show our bodies are benefiting on many levels from proper and consistent supplementation.
In this chapter we will cover:
-Learn the Difference
-Not Enough in Your Diet
-Twice a Day
USANA vitamins were never the goal. There’s just too much going on in the body to not give it all it needs. The correct term for many USANA products are “dietary supplements.” The term refers to one of many active ingredients that provide further nutritional value to the diet, as defined by the FDA. A dietary supplement can contain more than simply one particular vitamin or mineral.
Not Enough in Your Diet
According to the Food and Nutrition Board (under the umbrella of the National Institutes of Health) and reiterated by USANA scientists, “The Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) is—by definition—the lowest level of nutrient intake necessary to prevent deficiencies. This is clearly important for helping individuals avoid acute deficiency diseases, but it fails to address the issue of optimal nutrition.”
USANA products are formulated with the most up-to-date nutritional research available. Rather than looking to prevent vitamin deficiencies, USANA is concerned with protecting the body from cellular oxidation, and further, to provide optimal nutrition.
We should be eating a healthy diet consistently to maintain healthy bodily functions. “Let it be clearly stated,” USANA scientists have said, “that a healthy diet is a necessary foundation for any program of optimal nutrition, and there is no substitute for eating well.” Supplementation is not a “cure all.”
However, even in our prime, we indulge in a family dinner, we miss a workout, and we may not get the minimum recommendation of every essential vitamin in our daily diets, much less the optimal amounts. To this, our scientists say, “USANA’s nutritional supplements are designed to complement a healthy diet, not replace it. USANA supplements are designed to provide advanced levels of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that are difficult to obtain from diet alone—levels that individuals can use every day to promote a lifetime of good health.”
USANA was founded by Dr. Myron Wentz, a microbiologist passionate about creating a healthier world. The products are catered to your personal health needs with the intent to help your body at the cellular level.
USANA also has a research and development (R&D) team. By having an in-house team of scientists keeping up on the latest research and dietary trends, USANA can provide the most cutting-edge nutritional products.
For years, USANA scientists have been looking deep into the cells of the human body to more appropriately cater to their particular needs. “Like a lock and key, when the right molecule (key) hits the right sensor (lock), you initiate a cell-signaling pathway and communication commences,” says Dr. Brian Dixon. In short, when we feed the cells in our body what they need, they activate certain cell-signaling pathways that then allow our bodies to perform certain processes. You can learn more about these processes in Dr. Dixon’s discussion on the innovation of nutrition, where he delves into the major paradigm shift that is at the brink of taking place in the nutrition world.
You can learn more about specific USANA® products and their impact on your body by taking a look at USANA’s Ask the Scientists website. Here you will find everything from quick answers to your questions about our products to tips and guidebooks on how you can take control of your health.
Twice a Day
Unlike other “one-a-day” supplements, many USANA supplements are designed to be taken twice a day, morning and night. Many nutrients (like B vitamins and vitamin C) are water soluble and do not remain in your body very long. Taking these supplements twice a day provides more consistent levels of nutrition in the body.
In this way, we’re allowing the body to work with the nutrients through longer and more consistent periods of time.
If at any given time someone takes a supplement with a particular vitamin or mineral their body may not need, that does not necessarily mean they are getting enough of everything else they need at any given time. Meaning, we cannot rule out the need of a supplement, simply with the notion that one’s diet may be meeting any particular nutrient.
So the question is, do we or do we not give our bodies the vitamins and minerals they need every day regardless of our diet to ensure they are getting sufficient amounts of those nutrients on any given day?
Ultimately, regardless of your current diet, it is highly unlikely that you are getting all the nutrients your body needs to support regular healthy function and to prevent degenerative diseases. Apart from the fact that the RDA is the recommendation for the lowest level of nutrient intake, we also know that when taking in vitamins and minerals outside our diet, our bodies have a harder time absorbing them. The nutrients we ingest via supplements won’t be as readily absorbed than the nutrients from our food. USANA’s products provide a sufficient amount to give the body the opportunity to use the nutrients it contains effectively. It’s the difference between eating and hoping your body is getting everything it needs, and proactively making sure your body is getting what it needs.
Chapter 4: Supplement Calculator
The moment you’ve been waiting for. That initial question, “what USANA vitamins should I take”?
Well, now you know better, we’ve got much more than simple vitamins coming your way.
Below, you will find 10 of the many products that USANA offers. General product information and the benefits these products provide, coupled with the knowledge you’ve uncovered in the last three chapters, will help you better determine which supplements may be best for you.
Keep in mind, the following 10 are not a complete list of all the supplements that USANA offers, but are meant to help you start choosing the best supplements. For more information on all of USANA products, the vitamins and minerals in them, and other basic nutritional questions, visit our Ask The Scientists page.
In this chapter we will cover the following products:
USANA is focused on the science and nutrition of your body at the cellular level. With that, we have released our base dietary supplements, Core Minerals™ and Vita-Antioxidant™are USANA’s base dietary supplements which utilize USANA InCelligence Technology®.
Check out the video below to learn more about InCelligence technology, or read about it in our introduction here.
The USANA® Core Minerals is a top-rated, broad-spectrum daily mineral supplement. Used with Vita-Antioxidant, explained as product number two, they act as your base multivitamin. They are designed to target the most basic level of nutrition and to provide an essential foundation of optimal nourishment with essential minerals. It is an excellent source for zinc, which is involved in normal carbohydrate, fat, and protein metabolism, and it supports healthy DNA and RNA replication and copper, which is essential for collagen synthesis and thus plays a role in connective tissue formation. Core Minerals is a good source of manganese—which is important for protein and glucose metabolism—which helps support normal brain function. Recently, Core Minerals has been given increased Iodine. Iodine is crucial for the production of thyroid hormones and dietary surveys have shown that many people are becoming increasingly deficient in this important mineral, especially those limiting their salt intake.
Vita-Antioxidant is the second core health product, created to work with Core Minerals and formulated with USANA’s patent-pending InCelligence Complex. It is essential to providing your body with a foundation on which to build the rest of your nutritional regimen.†
As you learned in the short video above, our bodies need antioxidants to fight against the oxidation process that takes place in the body. While we can get antioxidants from certain food sources, we often don’t get enough of them, or don’t take the time to strategically plan out every meal.
And we can’t forget to mention all the B vitamins included in Vita-Antioxidant. Because so many of the B vitamins are essential for health and well-being, this product contains generous amounts of B1, B2, B6, and B12 vitamins as well as niacin and folate.
You can trust that Core Minerals and Vita-Antioxidant are an excellent choice for a comprehensive micronutrient supplement to nourish, protect, and renew your health every day and optimize your health span with normal aging.†
USANA® MagneCal D™
USANA® MagneCal D™, like chocolate and milk, is a stellar combination of nutrients working together to optimize your health. It contains a great balance of magnesium and calcium, and is fortified with vitamin D to support healthy bones.†
Your bones are the foundation of your healthy lifestyle. They are your structure; the solid base for the rest of your body. The benefits of USANA MagneCal D go beyond bone health—it also supports your heart, muscles, healthy energy metabolism, and more.†
While many have increased their consumption of calcium, most people fail to get even minimum daily requirements for magnesium or vitamin D.
Next on our list is Procosa®. This unique joint-support supplement, with vitamin C and the InCelligence Joint-Support Complex, supports optimal joint health so you can maintain an active lifestyle.†
While this is not a cure-all—no vitamin is—you can kiss those excuses goodbye as you start to work on supporting healthy joint function.†
The combination of vegetarian glucosamine and Meriva in the InCelligence Joint-Support Complex helps influence the signaling pathways that proactively promote an optimal response to restore normal function after exercise. It also helps activate autophagy to remove damaged organelles in joint tissue to support normal renewal of healthy joint-cell function and preserve healthy articular cartilage.†
Need something to support healthy circulation, cardiovascular health, and healthy skin? Proflavanol® C100 utilizes bioflavonoids, which can be found in many foods including grapes, apples, dark chocolate and wine, giving health benefits to those who don’t ingest these items or simply don’t get enough of their positive health influences.†
This groundbreaking bioflavonoid and advanced vitamin C supplement is the next on our important vitamins list because of the significant value in the unique formulation. Our Proflavanol bioflavonoid supplement combines the highest quality grape-seed extract with the free-radical-quenching power of vitamin C, giving you an important tool in the quest for lifelong good health.†
To learn more about Proflavanol and the health benefits involved, check out the video below, or follow this link.*
If you haven’t learned about the health benefits of omega-3 fatty acids, we suggest you do some additional homework. Fish oil contains important omega-3 fatty acids, which contribute to brain development, cellular function, and immune, joint, and cardiovascular health. BiOmega™ is a fish-oil supplement that’s easy to take every day, especially when you don’t feel like you’re getting enough fish in your diet. And USANA BiOmega has been infused with lemon—so no fishy aftertaste.†
BiOmega is exceptional because it has all the benefits of fish oil in a convenient gel capsule, and it is essentially free of harmful contaminants like mercury because of USANA’s double distillation process.
It also contains concentrated doses of DHA, a beneficial fat that supports memory and learning, and is greatly recommended for pregnant women. And BiOmega contains an additional dose of vitamin D, a nutrient found deficient in the average diet.†
Below is a video to give you more on this valuable little gem. If you don’t have one minute and 55 seconds to spare, you can also learn more by clicking this link.*
The USANA Vitamin D supplement comes in the smallest pill we offer. But don’t let it’s size fool you—this supplement packs a serious punch.
Recent reports show that certain populations around the world are suffering from vitamin D deficiency. The problem has potentially severe repercussions for overall health and bone-fracture rates.
If you’re having a hard time getting off that couch and working on that summer bod, you may be having some serious deficiencies working against you. There is evidence that suggests vitamin D deficiency increases during the winter months because of decreased exposure to sunlight, but vitamin D deficiency may also occur during the summer months. While we need sunscreen to protect us from harmful damages the sun can cause, it can also reduce the vitamin D made in our skin.
USANA’s Vitamin D supplement is formulated with an advanced amount of vitamin D to ensure you get the vitamin D you need in one tiny tablet.
Let’s be honest; you’re not you when you’re sick. Prepare yourself for some science.
While no vitamin can simply keep you from getting sick, there are particular supplements that can support healthy immune function. USANA’s Proglucamune™ daily supplement combines ancient wisdom with modern science to support robust immune function. By combining antioxidant-rich, organic reishi and shiitake mushroom extracts with a unique strain of baker’s yeast, Proglucamune is a powerful supplement that helps your immune cells work effectively.†
Made with USANA InCelligence Technology®, the beta glucans in the product bind to receptors on immune cells to prime their natural protective responses. They also help reduce the negative impact that occasional stress or strenuous exercise can have on immune function. Zinc complements the InCelligence activity in the formula by supporting healthy signaling between immune cells. Proglucamune is a superior product for helping immune cells adapt to your unique needs.†
You think about the health of your heart, brain, and bones, but what about your eyes? How important is your vision to your overall health? Our sight is vitally important, and yet we work our eyes hard all day and come home only to strain them some more with screen after screen.
Ophthalmologists recommend adding antioxidant supplements to your daily diet to help maintain long-term eye health. USANA formulated Visionex with lutein, zeaxanthin, and bilberry extract to work together to help the retina. Visionex™ also contains vitamin C along with other nutrients to help maintain the structure of the lens. Your eyes are made of delicate tissues that need protection. Don’t take your vision for granted!†
And last but certainly not least, USANA’s HepasilDTX™ liver support supplement will help you maintain the health of one of the largest organs in your body. The liver is our body’s natural dextox organ working day after day to keep our bodies free from the toxins around us.
With our HepasilDTX liver support supplement, you can now help your liver do what it does best. Utilizing the extract of milk thistle, a powerful antioxidant, this supplement actively supports the body’s natural protective processes.
The bottom line is, our bodies are meant to function in a way that keeps us healthy. Each cell, organ, and system have a purpose to keep our bodies going. Yet each of these pieces that make up how are bodies work are impacted by the nutrients we give or do not give to them. We can help our cells and organs function as they are supposed to by supporting them with the nutrients that they need.

Chapter 5: Consistency is King
Some say, “The best workout is the one you can stick to.” The same could be said about a healthy diet and dietary supplementation. The worst supplement and the worst workout are the ones you’re not taking/doing.
In this chapter we will cover:
-Try Various Products
-Make Appropriate Changes
-Record Feelings and Performance
Beginning a healthy lifestyle can be a daunting task. You know where you want to be and you know where you are, and the distance between the two can often feel immeasurable. As you enter into the world of supplements, you may feel the same way when you see all the potential benefits that come when you give your body the right fuel it needs to function properly. So start small.
Now that you’ve gone through and assessed yourself and your body’s needs, now is the time to try a supplement. If you’re serious about getting on top of your health, start with the core health products to feel the difference they make for you. Keep tabs on how you feel, what has changed, and what still needs to change.
Try Various Products
After you’ve taken the initial plunge, you’ll notice a couple things in your first month or so:
1. You’re not sure how you ever lived without supplements before, because you feel so great!
2. You’re beginning to see changes, and you’re interested in seeing what else is in store for you.
Take the next couple of months and try out supplements that you feel would aid you in specific functions. Maybe your in-laws have challenged you to a half marathon and you’ve become aware that your joints aren’t as young as they once were, so you look into a glucosamine product to help. Here’s your chance to give it a try.
Once you commit to a couple of the supplements directly associated with your health and lifestyle, take note of changes as you experience them. What happened to your energy levels, and how has your performance changed? These factors are byproducts of having a healthier body and giving your body the right nutrients it needs.
Make Appropriate Changes
As you learn more about optimal nutrition and your body specifically, take the time to make the appropriate changes in your nutritional regimen so you can cater to any new area that might need additional attention.
You will also find, believe it or not, that our bodies change over time. Meaning our needs may also change. Always keep an eye on your nutritional needs and make the changes according to your changing needs.
Record Feelings and Performance
Just like with a workout, or in training for a marathon, or even aspirations you have not related to physical health, if you write down what you did or how you felt, you can keep track and monitor your health over a period of time. If you don’t, you may not notice your small victories and overall progress toward your goal. By noting something as simple as the weight you lifted and how many reps or sets, you’ll find that the next time you come to it, you’re more prone to push a little further, knowing what you’ve already accomplished.
This idea is no different when looking at your diet, your nutritional intake, or more particularly, the supplements you are taking. If over time you’re not keeping track of the additional energy you may be feeling, the added strength you see, the additional endurance you find you have, coupled with the supplements you are using, you may not truly realize the benefits of what you’re doing for your body. Take the time to write down the supplements you’ve tried and the progress you have felt your body undergo.
Chapter 6: Commitment and Progress
Now that you’ve made changes, you’ve chosen the supplements to help you in your efforts, you’ve tried and tested them, and you’ve established some consistency, you now need to think long term. What goals do you have? At this point you’re capable of making some serious changes in your life.
In this chapter we will cover:
-Create a Plan
USANA®MyHealthPak™ was launched in efforts to help health seekers establish a personal solution to the supplements they take.†
USANA MyHealthPak is a 28-day supply of core supplements in convenient daily packets. After you’ve taken the time to determine the supplements your body needs, eliminate buying bottle after bottle of them separately. MyHealthPak makes the process of remembering and taking these valuable supplements as easy as possible as each of your daily tablets or gelcaps are already put together in personalized packets that you design.
To do this, simply enter the USANA shop* as you have before. If this is your first time, follow the steps provided. Once in, find your way to the top left corner of the page where you will find the link to the MyHealthPak™. From here the process is pretty simple. You can choose one of the already designed lifestyle packs or you can build your own pack with the supplements you’ve already decided fit into your personalized nutrition. Once selected and purchased, the order is processed and goes through manufacturing where your daily packets are put together. Your name will be printed on each packet.
All of this work is done by USANA. We know the day gets busy quick, and we know that it’s easy to forget to take your daily supplements. MyHealthPak™ is designed to aid you in going beyond the initial recognition of needing supplements, and instead keeping you consistent in giving your body what it needs.
Create a Plan
As a final step in your supplement selection process to give your body what it needs to be at its best, create a plan that you can follow for an extended period of time. Take it from a moment of positive thought to a developed good habit that you can stick to over time. Even now as you’re reading this, you may have felt twinges of excitement, change, or hope for your future, but as you continue on your day you may feel that excitement wear off. Or maybe you’re already committed enough to start purchasing a few new supplements to try. Let yourself take the excitement you’ve felt and the ideas that have come to you, and turn them into long-term investments into yourself and your health.
Remember: the best workout, the best diet, and the best supplements are the ones that you stick to—the ones that become habit.
If you find that you still have questions about which supplements to take, how to get started, or simply general questions we may not have covered here, feel free to reach out by commenting on USANA’s many social media sites, giving us a call, or getting in touch with one of our many Independent Associates who would be glad to give you additional information.
Quick Recap. You can make changes to your lifestyle. As you look to do so remember you don’t have to do it all at once. Start and get the feel for the new changes.
